Anyone used POR-15 ?
I am thinking of using the POR-15 paint system on some chassis/suspension parts, as an alternative to Hammerite. Has anyone here used it- did you brush it on or spray ? Any comments will be much appreciated.

I've used it a lot, on various classics, and it's an excellent paint system. Very dear for the quantity that you get, and if you get it on your skin, it will take DAYS to come off! Soaks through your clothes, too, so make sure you wear plenty of layers.
I just brushed it on, and it gave a lovely finish. If it is used on parts where they catch the sun, it goes dull quickly. However, on the underside, it's terrific!

I used it on my old Ford when I restored it ten years ago, although the car doesn't go out in the winter the covering is still good, hasn't peeled or cracked.
I used it on all the suspension parts and underside of the vehicle. Good stuff When I rebuild the rear suspension on the ZT I'll be using the same to protect that, hopefully be good for another 10 years as well! |

I used it last year to treat the underside of a Peugeot 206 and also the axle of my trailer that had been rebuilt by the local blacksmith. Funnily enough I noticed that the rust was appearing again on both vehicles so its not indestructible. Certainly better than Hammerite which I find only protects for so long on cars with the hostile spray of grit and salt etc.
It is nasty stuff to get off your skin. It literally "stains" your skin, so rubber gloves are a must! |

do not get por 15 on the paint tin lid and then close the lid. once the paint drys you will not be able to remove the lid. I have seen it raved about on another forum and it is now the paint I use. point to note, dont use it where it is suject to constant sun light. apparently it doe not like it.
it is also recommended that you user marine clean and metal prep and ready before using por 15 macafee2 |

The apprentice can testify to the skin adherence properties of this coating. I mistook him for a collie the other day.
