Today I've mostly been swearing at it, or to be more precise one of it's unknown former owners !
We went on a 2200 mile round trip to France to visit our place in the sun. The evening before our return I noticed it was leaking coolant. It was far too late to do anything about it, so I topped up the water and crossed my fingers. With stops every 150 miles to top up the water, it made it to my sisters house in Luton for our overnight stop without any problems. The final 550 miles was going well until we hit Aberdeen, it finally decided enough was enough and threw off it's drivebelt which was firmly jammed between the waterpump and the inner wing. I thanked the gods that it had made it that far, and called Autoaid to be recovered. Despite being told it would take 60 to 90 minutes my mood was pretty good as it could have been far worse if we'd broken down further from home. However a 2.5 hour wait for the recovery truck then ensued.......... I certainly won't be renewing with Autoaid next year But we were finally home, and glad to be there. This morning I set about removing the water pump, all was going well until I found the final torx bolt (the hardest to remove) had been completely and utterly butchered After many failed attempts to remove it, out came the dremel. A groove was cut in the bolt, but it wouldn't shift. I tried cutting the sides of the bolt to make "flats" but that didn't work due to the very limited access available. I looked like I was going to have to remove the engine *** (turf) it, I had nothing to lose, so out came the cold chisel, crow bar and lump hammer - it finally relented and out came the last bolt Tommorrow I shall be getting very inebriated with the inlaws (as is the custom ), so I shall set about fitting a replacement waterpump on Monday Last edited by ratchet; 20th June 2015 at 18:43.. |

Removed both rear door cards, and replaced the crispy and corroded inner rubber waist trims.
You have to hand it to Rover, these particular parts are made from recycled chocolate fireguards. I also replaced the internal door handles which had repaired with fish paste and Gloy Gum. While I was on, I also replaced the pollen filter.......Mmmm, Parma Violets Brian |

Replaced a split steering rack gaiter which was damaged where it is clipped to the rod. Had bought some new m14x 1.5mm nuts and got the old lock nut off with a nut splitter after removing the track rod end. Easy job took about 30 minutes. I have used a set of bailcast stretchy gaiters, fit perfectly so hope it proves to be nice and durable. Made of a much more rubbery and flexible material and only £10 for a pair.
Never used a nut splitter before so was sceptical it would work, but was very simple in the end. |

Three times for the OSR card, damn and blast these pesky door handles and electric window winder wires Perhaps I should have mentioned I was simply practicing for tackling the silver ZT, for which you are in for a Swizzles Matlow treat tomorrow Brian |
