Default painting car acrylic V 2 k paint

Painted the old doer upper 75 today.
Had the chance to try out acrylic versus 2 pack (2k) finish.
Acrylic is a bit more work (4-5 coats colour and 4 coats of clear coat)
Found out the paint on the car (copperleaf) is a pearloid paint and is a 1k colour and they used a 2k clear coat which gives it a hard clearcoat finish.
Ended up doing the bonnet, roof, boot in acrylic and touched up the doors with 2k clear- 2k clear sprays on alot easier than the acrylic although the acrylic does look alot richer

Nice one, you used to know what was what before all the paint changes, I recently sprayed my front bumper, I bought some GMN synthetic base coat & 1K lacquer, I had some top coat thinners on the shelf in my garage & used that.
I wasn't sure if it would react with the original paintwork or not & I would have to buy some synthetic thinners but it went on OK.

I agree about the 2K lacquer going on easier than this 1K, just need a bit more time & patience with it. the beauty of this 1K lacquer though is you can put it back in the tin if you put too much in the spray gun.

I have just used 2K paint on a TV unit I built, battled with acrylic paint and varnish to start with, then opened the 2K, so much easier to spray and get a decent finish. I only use cellulose lacquer to thin it.

I need to re-pray 2 panels on my car, fortunately the white is only 2K with no clear-coat.

Proper 2K lacquer has isocyanates and should only be sprayed when you're using an air fed respirator and inside a proper spray booth anything else is suicidal
