Update
Hi all, so I’ve had a good look round and found no water in the front plenum, the drains are clear. The car is intermittently failing in the same fashion, the old difference now is that after a few turns of the key it eventually fires up.
Smells like the ignition switch to me. Is this an easy just or does it require T4 and magic? Cheers, Graham |

Drop Jamie a PM and organise a T4 session to find out what is really going on, he is not far away

Update
Jamie’s just had a look (many thanks Jamie) and T4 hasn’t thrown up any problems other than my MAF failing ‘right side’ which I can live with and confirmation that my ecu has been changed at some point.
Further investigation into starting issue on e46 BMWs has identified a identical failure scenario. On the BMWs it seems to be good old dirty contacts on the switch on the end of the ignition lock. Guess I’ll be ripping that for a clean next!! |

Solved.....I think
Hi all, just to complete the tale. After a full dismantle and clean up of the switch contacts normal service has been resumed. So if any of you have this problem, try cleaning the ignition switch contacts up first.
Cheers, Graham. |
