Default In line Thermostat

I finally got around to fitting this last thursday (just in time) but I am not convinced of its effectiveness. The heater appears to be warmer after a few miles but the temp gauge doesn't get any higher than between six and seven o'clock. One thing I am not sure of is that when I was pushing it down into the hose I pushed on the brass bit and it compressed. Have a damaged it and that is why I am not seeing any big benefits.

The inline should be fitted in the top hose with the copper looking at you. It sounds like you have damaged it . Next time , push it home just enough so the hose can be refitted. Push only on the outer rim not the bulb bit. Something like a open plastic bottle that just slips over the copper bulb does the trick.
Got mine from carparts4less. About £6 inc.

Hi Guys, I did push it in the correct way around and pushed it down with a small screwdriver against the rim but I slipped a couple of times and my thumb pushed the copper end in against the spring. I wish I'd seen the pictures using a cut down bottle as it took me about 2 hours to force it down 5cm's.

So because I forced it open with my thumb a couple of times I could have ruined it. I will have to live with it until it gets warmer if that is the case.

Hi all.

You can use a good simple cheap tool : a lenght of PVC diam 40 mm does the job perfectly and fits the stat perpendicularly into the hose.

Hope this helps...

There you go. Simple and cheap, it's all about helping each other save a few bob. Hope you removed the hose and then had it in boiling water for a couple of mins, helps to ease the stat in when the hose is softish, add a bit of washing up liquid..

Good post lads especially Arctic's i am going to do this as soon as the weather clears up. When bleeding is it just the case of topping up and opening the bleed screw ?

Mine needs doing, and would prefer to replace original, but the cost of the unit, then the work to replace it, well, if it works this good then will give it try. But will wait for weather to improve. (a little at least)
