You maybe able to get to it through the hole in the manifold, but it would be really tight.

Are you absolutely sure the sensor is faulty? They are typically bombproof and loss of signal is almost always due to a dodgy/dirty connector or the wiring from it. If cleaning up of the connector plug/sensor pins doesn't regain the signal. check the wiring . It may be necessary to undo the harness to find where the break is. I'd recommend a check on the intgrity of the wiring using a meter of some kind before embarking on sensor replacement.

next question is can you remove the temp sensor wiring connector , clean the contacts and replace it without taking the manifolds off?
Still trying to work out should buy another 75.
This car is a 2001 2.5 connie in moonstone colour, always been garaged
120,000km very clean and cheap.
Only issue is i need to drive it 200km home and also the wife aint gonna be happy with another one !!
Issue is , the car will probably get broken up for parts if i dont buy it !!

Yes, you can access the connectors without removing the inlet manifolds. From memory these join the loom at the back of the engine but are probably easier to reach if you remove the throttle housing.

thats good news, from your description, it sounds like using the key hole method access (from the side) when you do the thermostat housing but able to access the temp sensor.(remove throttle body and battery box)
I would think if there was an issue with the sensor connection it would most likely be at the plug point-i hope!!

Daughter no.2 came around with a clutch issue, had a try at bleeding and removed the battery box to get at the bleed valve - with the battery box removed I could see the coolant sensor connector and probably get at it too.

And the clutch issue? Was hoping it was the master but sadly of course it's the slave ...

Hi Mike. When you get the new slave cylinder, which one do you intend getting? Perhaps you might be kind enough to let us know the name of it?

My daughter is in two minds whether to keep the car as spares or repair, so if she does decide on repair, it'll be a budget choice, probably a Delphi - and unpaid Dad will be doing the work, though I might get the odd mug of tea.

Apologies to the OP for going off thread.

no problem at all, thanks for the heads up re the battery box, could be a much more painless fix if it works.
ill start with the battery box and work inward if not enough access.
Now ive just got to find a place to hide the car from the wife if i buy it!!
Have an empty garage at our holiday place, might be a good spot there.
