Depends where you are of course but at 25 mile scale when viewing the London area, quite normal for a weekend in my experience.

yorkshire area wouldn't have been all that busy no evidence of any jams where I was driving fiding the hi line nav to be verging on useless with its strange routing and so on, is it better with a bmw mk3 unit and a software up date?

This is what I've found is generally the case. If you select Fastest route it will always route you via a motorway, even if it involves a questionable detour. Use Shortest route with caution; it will probably divert you off a fast 'A' road and down a single track road just to save 0.25 miles. However, it works well in towns and cities as it will not direct you around the ring road. I find it best not to depend upon the sat. nav. totally. I carry an old-fashioned map in the seat pocket and, for long journeys, decide on my routing then use the computer to warn me of forthcoming turns and guide me through complex junctions. Minor roads is good. It doesn't, as you might think, confine you to 'B' and unclassified routes, but it does avoid potentially congested motorways. Simon.
