Right, tried repairing mine, it now spins up, and I could eject the disk (which looks like someone had used sand paper to clean it). I presume there is water damage in the drive itself too. Still no nav option on the high line. There was greening to two pins in the red coupler, which I've cleaned up but not actually taken it apart. Would this affect the nav option further back in the system? Just curious before I get another drive

I would certainly clean all the connectors, and a spell in the airing cupboard has been known to help

After cleaning it was in our mess room for 12h, at a nice toasty 28C , but I'll try in the airing cupboard for a couple of days too

Ive cleaned and saved a couple by cleaning the PCB with a toothpaste and toothbrush....washing carefully under running water and drying in the airing cupboard

the ones I couldn't save was because the corrosion was too bad

I've obviously done some slight good as the drive is spinning and attempting to read a (knackered) disk. I used an alcohol based electronic cleaner and nylon brush at work. Maybe something internal under the big metal squares are still damp. I'll report at weekend when car is back from garage, mot'd and taxed

While the drive is cooking in the airing cupboard, some pics of what I found and what it looked like after cleaning. Oh, and the disk

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4...aHc&authuser=0 This drive seems to have slightly different connections to the one in another cleaning thread.

The drive as I found it

And after a clean

I've noticed what could be damage/shorts to the tracks here??

My soldering skills aren't good enough to start to try repair if it is broken because of this.

Now the disk after ejection

Well, after 3 days baking, tried again today. Still no joy . Drive still starting up (no disk for obvious reasons), but nothing on the menu and light still flashing after 10 mins of waiting. Looks like another drive then

I've got a new drive, before I fit it does anyone know how to open up the red and blue couplers? Although I've cleaned them I would like to check inside incase there is further damage to the wiring. Pictures would be good too if possible.
