Well the car currently has the cradle fitted and he says that the set-up 'did' work with the Nokia 6310i phone, so why he was given the cable harness etc when he retired, I don't know, perhaps the unit which is currently fitted is the Nokia Cark91 handfree kit and the parts the owner now has (wiring harness etc.) which he was given to him on leaving the dealership allows the setup to interface with the highline, which would be in line with what the instructions I've posted suggest is possible

Well I stand corrected.....Although thinking about it, my neighbour had a brand new ZT with hi-line, and he's got a car kit....I've no idea if it's linked, I assumed it simply muted the unit....

I did find this via google

It appears to be a Nokia HFU-4 handsfree unit.......which is a bog standard nokia unit, so there must be a bespoke bit of cabling to link it to the hi line

So, I wonder if the Brand new cable harness, box and installation guide to which the original owner of the car refers to in his email to me is this bespoke piece of harness?
I have emailed the owner and asked if I can buy all the remaining bits and pieces he has for the car, hopefully he'll part with them and then the mystery might be solved

This Technical Brochure issued by MG Rover details all the components and operation of the integrated car kit, however I have never seen it fitted to any car. It states that there were just two handsets compatible with the equipment,

the Siemens S10

and the Nokia 3110

Some closer shots of the menu screens

As has been said, I don't think this was ever brought to market for our cars, but probably was in BMW form in their cars at the time

If the previous owner has all of the above hardware, then your car could well be a first but my money's on the generic Nokia car kit with mute lead if the handset you have is the Nokia 6310i

Thanks for the info Reebs, I'm waiting to hear back from the original owner of the car, who, as I said was the manager of the dealers which had the car from new. The kit fitted would seem to be the Nokia kit, but he says that he has an additional installation kit, which includes a wiring harness which allows the phone to integrate with the highline system, displaying the top eight most used numbers, as per the pdf which I uploaded earlier, however, until I get the kit from him (assuming he'll sell it) I don't have any more information!
From what the previous owner said, it seems that the kit fitted used the Nokia 6310i, I've resurrected my old Nokia 6310i to use with the fitted kit, but it doesn't appear to work (yet)
