The other is a firmware update disc which requires a certain level of knowledge to be able to use it. Keith Alexander is a man that knows about such discs, and I watched him try to breathe life into my old satnav, but alas things had gone too far and it was brain dead. RIP... Hope that helps somewhat.

That's right Dave. Navteq are the standard type of map discs.
There are a couple of others but I believe they have all now stopped supplying TMC codes. Not that would stop you using your satnav at all. You just don't get the traffic updates on the tv.

There is a setting in the satnav to set the satnav's voice plus or minus (dB) the radio volume. Now if you set the radio volume well down, the satnav's volume will also decrease in level too. Turn the radio volume down to minimum and then turning the radio off, will mean the satnav voice will not be heard at all. So when you turn the radio off - make sure the volume level is at a normal listening level. Another rather odd thing is that with the radio off, the only time you can adjust the volume of the satnav via the radio volume control, is when she is actually speaking. |

You mentioned a firmware update disk - where might I obtain one of these? |

Hi there....That sounds interesting Harry. I'd like to see that file addition too.
As for the update discs I've no idea how to obtain or even use one. Keith is an IT guru with his own T4 testing station. His work seems to spill on to his hobby. Fantastic chap indeed and ever so knowledgable and helpful.

Gents, take a look at this thread
TMC Chapter & Verse (Well Almost) The MG Rover Mark III units, did have firmware update discs for a short time, but these were more for reloading corrupt data than upgrading features. Unlike the BMW Mark III units, the MG Rover ones couldn't have their software upgraded, it was software locked.

Thanks for the run down on the TMC. Nifty thing to be sure.
