Default Traction control light

2001 Rover 75 2.5 V6.

My car had the optional traction control fitted and I have no issues with this for normal driving. I can turn it on and off at the button just fine, and it actuates the self test when I turn on the ignition without issues.

However, if you manage to trigger it the warning light in the IPK comes on and stays on. The only way to remove the warning is to turn the ignition off and back on.

Any ideas?

Replace it if it annoys you. Mine did the same, replaced it and now when it occasionally flashes up it extinguishes within seconds. Lots of BMW ones, search for cruise control actuators as they're identical except for the cable which can be swopped over.

Perfect, I’ve now bought a secondhand BMW cruise activator to fit. Many thanks

It was indeed a broken tooth on the cog! I replaced the unit with a secondhand BMW E38/39 cruise actuator with the Rover cable transferred over, and is now working fine!

All good then. I see you've edited your post and deleted the question about the light on start-up, anyway checked mine this morning and can confirm there is no light on start-up so yours is indeed working as it should.

Regards

Ah yes

I found that if I leave the car for a long period, I do get the “Traction Control” message in the IPK when I start the car. It flashes up then immediately goes away. If I only leave the car for a few minutes the restart it, I don’t. I guess it has to shut down properly.

I always thought that was normal behaviour... but now I’m not sure...
