Something has upset your ecu, it won’t be water as previously said, the petrol versions are fully sealed (I have seen a v6 plenum full of water where the ecu was fully submerged and the car ran as normal)
The problem is, if you don’t find out what the issue is you risk killing your replacement ecu. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No, it has definitely had some water ingress. The inside of the aluminium heatsink (actually in contact with the main circuit board) is very powdery and corroded now that it is bone dry. The water has only affected the very bottom of the unit, so I may get away with it! I think a lot of people may be labouring under the delusion that the v6 ecu is waterproof, but it most certainly is not!

The V6 and 1.8 W us are sealed and waterproof. You may find it has been apart before that is why it has let water inside.

Why would they make the petrol ones waterproof, and not the diesel ones? Doesn't make any sense at all! By the way, Trikey, do you remember our chance meeting on the Scarborough road about seven or eight years ago? We spoke on the 'Was it You' forum at the time. I hope is all well with you!
Best wishes, David |

Hi Jamie
Are you able to do anything to replace my v6 ecu? It may recover, but just in case! Do you know of anybody else who can? There seems to be a service on ebay, but I would rather deal with a fellow member. Thanks |

Correct, the aluminium heatsink corrodes which then breaks the seal and allows the water in, it's not common but i have had to replace a few.

I wouldn't be able to repair it, but if you got a virgin one I could program it in.

May I ask you a similar question. Are you able to get hold of and reprogram virgin v6 ecu's? An ebayer claims to have reconditioned ones for cloning, but I thought this was impossible, as they are one flash only chips. It's not something i do anymore but its quite possible to clone it, the 29F200 flash memory can be externally reprogrammed many times but the diagnostic command for learning the immo code (command B8,13,F7,02,31,80) can only be used once. The other way is to desolder the chip and swap them over. |
