The mechanical parts were indeed re-plated, however I can't take credit for that - it was done by member "Sagalout". Quote:

I believe the area marked with the red arrow in the first photo holds the second butterfly where traction control is fitted

That would explain it - no traction control on mine.
Thanks Cliff

Quite correct, that is where the traction control butterfly is fitted. Just a common body casting.
Bastelmann, No you cannot remove those plastic parts, they are cast in-situ with the arms during manufacture. I did remake some as part of a throttle body remake. A complex assembly that used mechanical fixings and a space filling resin mix with specially turn parts.. Refinish appears to be bright zinc plating (BZP) with a brown passivation. |

had similar issues, took out the idle valve, cleaned it with some methylated spirits and fixed the issue.
throttle position sensor is a pointometer (variable resistor) so i thought was pre set and the ecu took its reading off it so didnt think was adjustable? |

Yep, I'm pretty sure my issue is down to the idle valve. All new parts now, so may just need to do the throttle re-set process properly.
I'll be trying again in a few days or so, but in the meantime, I'm just enjoying having the car working properly after 12 month + of piston slap . Cliff

"Hi, I only unclipped two of the push on plastic parts. I dipped them in brick acid, the kind that builders use, it doesn't melt the plastic. I zinc plated them and put some extra brightner in the bath, I then dipped them in Gold passivate for the shine. If you're careful you won't have any problems doing the same, I've done every nut and bolt for my build, all new stuff but re-plated for a better finish".

Throttle re-set procedure
Quote:
The throttle re-set procedure involving depressing the accelerator pedal five times applies only to the MEMS engine management fitted to the 1.8 engine. It does not apply to the KV6 Siemens system. Here's what RAVE says: "The ECM does not require the 'closed throttle position' to be set. It will learn the closed throttle position over a short period of time and adapt itself to use this value."
