Very sad to read this. I didnt have much interaction with Derek, but from what I did read, and from what others have said, he was one of the old guard.
My condolences to his family and his quite obvious beloved Lillian. No more pain or distress, rest easy.

Moderators re Windrush
With the sad passing of Windrush, would it be appropriate at some time in the coming days to pay a final token of respect to this forums friend and respected Gentleman by closing down the forum for a period of time, possible during his funeral.
I’m sure we could all use this “time out” to reflect on quite a remarkable man. Rest in Peace “Windrush”. God Bless you. |

I was thinking along the same lines Jim. It would be a fitting tribute.

Totally agree Jim.
Doing this would be the greatest act of respect that a club/forum can do.

collection for Windrush and Lillian
Just wondering if Mods or someone that lived near Derek, could set up a collection either for flowers for the funeral,or if they arent having flowers a contribution to whatever his family wanted, I know a lot of funerals dont have flowers, and prefer a contribution to a charity, so if a collection was organised ,someone could either take the flowers or the money to the funeral. Not everyone will be able to make it to the funeral once its sorted out,as its too far away and a lot of people Im sure would like a way to mark their respect for Derek.
Maybe some flowers and a condolence card or cards could be given to Lillian, prior to the funeral to show everyone at the club is thinking of her, I,m quite sure when the times right and it doesnt hurt as much, people may like to make an award for Derek,as the did for other members, I know the post is quite early, and everyone is in deep shock, but just thought it can take a bit of time to sort things out,

Although in recent weeks the news has been getting worse and the outcome was sadly on the cards it is still a bit of a shock that Derek is no longer with us. It is some small comfort that he is at peace and no longer suffering but he will be greatly missed not just nationally within the club but particularly at our local meets; always one of the first to arrive and always one to make newbies so very welcome. So, so sad.
My sincerest condolences to Lillian and family.
