Default Pay-Pal issue

Hi.
I rarely sell on eBay but two days before Anne had her op I put up a piece of vintage equipment for sale. It sold within an hour at the "Buy it now" price. I sent it off on the Thursday when Anne was in the hospital and and it duly arrived at the buyer last Saturday.
I was paid by PayPal and it immediately went on hold. I did all the correct things like adding the tracking number and the buyer left positive feedback last Sunday. I have contacted PayPal but both the messaging service and the contact call system are useless, you just cant speak to a human.
I have to wait till the 30th to withdraw my money, I feel this is wrong.
Is there anything else I can do?

It sounds like the payment may of been sent as an echeque, Trevor. Which, can take several days to clear. If this is the case, it would of been best not to have sent the item until the funds fully clear and are available to you. I’d imagine it should still be OK...

Just remembered, as a new seller, eBay hold payment for 21 days unless buyer has left positive feedback then the funds get released to you within a few days.

Its to do with buyer protection. Info here.

This also happened to me once

As far as I could find out it was to make sure buyer was happy with the purchase.

This happened to me as well. I think this is eBay policy, and everything was good at the end, just needed to be patient.

Thanks Chaps.
Yes it would seem to protect the customer. Sellers though don't get a lot of support and often become the looser from what I've read.
Latest info looks as if the monies will be released tomorrow.

I am quite surprised about that - did you actually call customer services? I was very dubious the 1st time I tried calling them but I got through to a very pleasant Irish lady who sorted everything out in about an hour. I've had similar experiences on other occasions as well. To be fair I've never bothered with the text or call back service, I want to speak to real people there and then.

Paypal get a very bad press but I must have processed over £100k through them in the past 3 years with my businesses and I've never had a single problem (probably shouldn't had said that should I ) - once you qualify for a reduction in the fees it's even better obviously!

Hi.
Yes I did call customer services and it is all automated with no option to speak to a human, I tried everything to reach an operator with no success.
In future any vintage stuff that is spare will be offered on the respective forums or broken up for spares, eBay and PayPal can take a running jump.
