I would keep a car whilst it was broadly original - IMO the current limit is somewhere between 20 and 23 years from new. I am not really a fan of cars that follow "trigger's broom" or well known celebrities' philosophy to maintaining structure and shape.
I get the Triggers broom analogy, but what's the celebrities philosophy to which you refer?

I suspect the analogy is to cars that are modded/upgraded and altered from their original spec

Surely, it is obvious?

Fighting against nature to preserve (almost always unsuccessfully) something that was and can no longer be. Usually ending up with a monstrosity that has lost all natural attraction.

Today I took delivery of a tank strap, rear o/s wishbone (both MOT advisories) and a door latch. The tank strap - well I found one new one on eBay and had it. I can't see any more available. MG Rover partfinder has one at Summit in Dudley (no they don't) and one in Holland.

So I popped next door to the metal fabricator and showed it to him, he said he could make one no problem. Thing is he's semi retired, so I could get him to do one or two maybe, but that's it.

Yes, well it said that for weeks, even giving a date of June 28, which passed by with none appearing, and now says Out of stock, expected soon. Not much good if you need one now.
