That's very cheap, annoyingly purchased that HX7 5/30 for the other halfs Fiesta at £27 last week (and that was cheaper the Euros)

The Shell 10/40 stuff is what I use on the K series track car, cheap enough I don't mind regularly changing it and seems to work well as haven't wrecked an engine yet

I always used Magnatec 10/40 since I bought the car in 2008. Told by the garage I use for my mot’s, for over 30 years, that I could use 5/40 Magnatec C3, as it was virtually the same as what I was using, but did not give out as much pollution. Checked with Castrol, and yes, the test parameters for both are the same, with the same lubricity results from the tests done on both, but less pollution. Don’t forget, our cars are ‘old’ by oil standards, where oil is constantly being ‘updated’ about every 2/3 years. I have done around 3000 miles so far and nothing seems to have changed except turns over easier in the mornings. Will find out about long distance touring when we go to Holland with the club in around 5 weeks time. Abroad usually get around 52 mpg because most of it is on m/ways.

The MGR spec does not state whether the oil has to have synthetic content. All it has to do is achieve the minimum ACEA specifications in the handbook and be of the correct grade e.g. 10W40, 5W40, 5W30 depending on ambient temperature ranges where the car is used.

In the UK, 10W40, 5W40, 0W40 and 5W30 should all be fine.

A synthetic oil provides better lubrication than semi-synthetic than mineral. Whether this will make any material difference will be determined by how hard the engine is used.

Personally, I use 5W40 synthetic all the time. You also cannot go wrong with 10W40 semi-synthetic especially if the oil is changed at the recommended or shorter intervals.
