Volkswagen diesels?
We have been looking at a 1.6 VW diesel but after some research on the web, it's a definite "No"! Since the after fiasco remaps, many of them are having problems. Even before this, low mileage examples have been having issues with EGR valves and tensioner pulley failures. One I looked at had to be taken back to VW to have injector problems sorted after the remap. Not so bulletproof VW diesels then???

Our Skoda Yeti has the VW 2.0 TDi diesel engine, and has been re-mapped. I am not terribly happy- the engine seems noisier and more raucous, slightly less responsive, and the fuel economy is not quite as good. Nothing has failed as yet, but I get a bit nervous about any suspicious noises it starts making. It is now on 65,000 miles, and apart from 2 broken springs, it has only needed routine maintenance and wear and tear items (brake discs/pads etc). No clutch or DMF problems. The DPF light comes on occasionally, but a good blast up the road in the low gear clears it.

It’s safe to say VAG group are not what they used to be, pretty much every engine option in their line up suffer with some major problems now.

Our 2011 Polo Bluemotion had to go back to VW for the emissions fix, but has ran like a sack of $hit since with no low down power

I've got 2 mates who work for VW one in sales the other a mechanic.
When it comes to working on a car everything he has to do to the car is told to him on a tablet computer, no more no less . Enough said me thinks When I them ask questions about the longevity and reliability of stop-start starter motors, and the potential damage to turbochargers due to stopping quickly from high speed etc there is no real answer given. I've also got a mate with a Touran 2.0TDI and he's probably wisely refused to have it remapped. |

I have a VW Phaeton, and I bought it on the 27th December - it's been in the garage under repair since the 9th January.
That says all it needs to for VW quality - so far, not very impressed.

I've been hankering for a phaeton for a few years now, but am too miserable to pay the road tax🙄. Let me know how it goes, once you have it back on the road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Followed one into Reading yesterday, ridiculous amount of smoke out the back. Guess the turbo had gone.
If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen. Haha.

Vw 1.6 diesel
Avoid like the plague, on my second VW 1.6 diesel caddy now, leased/company van, wouldn't have one in a gift, last one had done 40.000 miles and had very bad oil leaks to the point rac thought it could have went on fire, got repaired but still leaked, dual mass clutch judder was very bad from 30,000 miles, collapsed suspension arm bushes, discs and pads front and rear, noisy gear box from new, £60 of fuel got 430 miles and new van is worse 330 miles to £60 and have to put add blue in! 31 miles per gallon! New one is gutless compared to old van with new mapping and I expected better fuel consumption with new map stop start etc and both vans are speed restricted and tracked. Avoid
