Default Vibration at idle

Hello, this is my first post as I have just bought a 2001 Connoisseur manual CDT tourer. I have been slowly reading through the forum to get a good idea about these cars.

Now the one I’ve bought does have a few issues that need to be sorted and some areas I would like to improve.

The first is engine vibration at idle. The temp gauge only goes to about half way between 7 and 8 o’clock. So I will be adding an in line thermostat and also looking to fix the fuel burning heater.

My question is will the engine running cool effect idle as idle is about 600 rpm, or having looked through the forum is this more likely to be just the hydramount?

I tend to do all my own spannering, so have no problems delving into sorting this car - just don’t know Rovers yet, so some learning required.

could be hydromount or bottom engine/gearbox mount i replaced my lower engine mount last year as the rubbers were all shot easy enough job my bottom mount cost me 40 quid original as well as for the in line stat i fitted one last year got it from dmgrs for 15 quid inc postage and works very well as same easy enough job the hardest part is cutting off the metal clip. as you go down hill the temp gauge drops to zero its a fault on the deisel cars it opens too early. or you could go expensive and fit a original but is awkward as its at the back of the engine and you will have to remove the water pump rgds mark

The slow tick over and vibration at idle could easily be an injector not quite right.---

Thanks for replies.

What should the idle speed be?

Hopefully not an injector as I guess that’s the most expensive to fix.
What is the best way to go about testing the injectors? Can you read injector values with something like TOAF, and would that show if there is an issue? Would a leak down test help?

I’ve ordered a copy of RAVE which I should get soon, so I will have a look through that when it arrives.

I believe the idle speed is about 780 rpm on diesels

i have diesel 75 and have always had the vibration at idle.
changed hydro mount and lower engine mount which improved the vibration a bit but still there.
I then changed the thermostat and water pump so engine runs at right temp but
still the vibration at idle.
Apart from that the engine runs well.
Also another thing, occasionally when steering is on full lock at idle, the idle drops so low the engine cuts out.

The ECU is not doing its job correctly because if a load on the engine drops the tick over speed below a set value the ECU should automatically bring the revs back up.

Having had a read through these posts again the 600 rpm tickover is probably the cause of the vibration.----

I do believe that the tick over can only be increased/decreased via aT4 or possibly Toaf
