OK 1) The club discount code on the banner advert on this site just comes up as Promotion ended code invalid 2 I see now you mention it, a this weekend code which brings the price down to £13 odd which is good. However I fail to see how that helps outside of this weekends promotion unless there is a permanent 30% at other times. I'm not bothered as it happens in this particular case but my query still remains as to the anomaly in normal non Bank holiday times I, didn't notice the sale headline at the top of the page as it happens and I'm sure that others might not also but thats their problem and my own as it has cost me £4 more on this occasion which I'm not too worried about, although clearly I'd rather pay £13 than £17 but unless the price is permanently reduced to £17 on the site it still seems rather odd to be selling it at that price elsewhere and £27 on the home site. |

I'm just musing as to the inconsistency, I don't feel the need to write to the CEO of a company about a £17 filter, just highlighting a possible anomaly and wondering if others have a plausible explanation that they might like to put forward to a situation that I found a touch strange last night. I'm not sure why the China thing needs pointing out as if I'm some sort of gullible halfwit, half the worlds goods are made there for foreign manufacturers presumably as you point out it is the specs and quality control put in place by reputable manufacturers that determine the quality or otherwise. The contributions from Ratchett and Gazmo in contrast have supplied very useful explanations and tips for future use Last edited by bendrick; 24th August 2018 at 09:44.. |

I am not defending ECP's approach to pricing, just explaining it. Remember that we DIY people are a side distraction to ECP as it is really a garage supply business. At the end of the day, if a person has no idea of what a fuel filter should cost to a tolerance of £1 to £2, it could be argued that they really should not be attempting a filter change! |

I do appreciate that. Mind you I wouldn't neccessarily agree with the fuel filter observation although made in good humour. Why would someone know how much a simply changed item is on a car that they have recently purchased? I would repeat that i'm not moaning or trying to get 50p of here or 75p off there on a relatively small item just wondering why there were /are such a relatively large discrepancy on a price of an item from the same supplier. Which a couple of contributors have now explained. Cheers Last edited by bendrick; 24th August 2018 at 09:53.. |

I generally buy from Carparts4less, the mail order arm of ECP. The prices are always lower than ECP although you still have to apply a discount code.
Alternatively, for filters and oil, Opie Oils. FYI - the original diesel filter on the CDT was a Knetch KC85/1 and it is available from Opie oils at a good price. I use this particular make. |

Yes I did see that but they were out of stock on Amazon so I looked at other makes. Now this query and thread is exactly the reason why I posed my question. I have now been alerted to a number of alternative outlets that I didn't know about and their quirks and differing discount code offers as experienced by other forum members. I'd never heard of GSF which it turns out have a branch in Cardiff just down the road and their filter for a 75 diesel is selling at £10 odd. Not that I'm trying to desperately penny pinch and get the cheapest item rather than a quality item. By the same token just like most people I also don't want to overpay either. |

Here is another one to add to your list - Mister Auto. Again, look at their home page for the discount code!
For brake discs, pads etc. I use Mister Auto. They usually ship from France or Belgium so can take longer but the prices are always good, especially on TRW brake parts which I like to use. Also suspension parts. |

As for the China 'thing' I am just pointing out that Bosch is a company associated with quality, thus the high price for its products, if these are made in China, then customers are relying on the company to ensure the QC of its products are as would be expected, that's for the benefit of those of us who are halfwits as well as gullible, there you have it, I am perfectly calm as I type. |
