drivers door lock (again)

Ok, I have removed the door lock actuator and am now in the process of refitting it. The problem I have is re fitting the the small bar that locates on to the lock it has at either end a "Star" cross I have read the "How to,s" but there does not appear any mention of this item when doing the lock change. Even with my smallish hands I cant see how to access it to replace it.

Can any one give me any suggestions (Polite ones only)

That cross-headed bar only sits one way in the actuator, so slot it in the actuator (I used a carefully placed little dab of silicone to help secure it in position when manoeuvring the lock into the door) and then it should just line up with the driver lock door barrel when in position - although you might need to get your hand in there to place it. It's not that bad a job.
I did this job recently and the new actuator is actually a pattern part (don't see Bosch on it anywhere) and seems to be a little bit bulkier than the OEM item, so just getting it in the door cavity is the biggest job - need to loosen the window regulator bolts to facilitate.

Quick addendum:
The only reason that I used a little dab of silicone to secure the cross-headed bar to the new actuator is that the newer versions don't hold the bar as tightly as the OEM ones - although the torsional rigidity (the bit that's required of this part) is more or less the same.

OK, Now another small problem,,All fitted back together But when locking with the Key nothing happens, in as much as you turn the key and the "cross bar" with the cross star either end doesnt turn....Both ends are located, So is there anything on the key side that may have come adrift or broken??

Mmm, I don't know what else might not be working on the key side..

Hopefully, someone with a bit more experience of these darned things will be able to help.

The cable in the actuator from the lock to the cross bar might have broken but it usually turns the bar one way but not the other.
I have seen it where the back of the lock barrel has broken away and caused a problem like that too.

There are two small torx screws (notorious for snapping off) hidden behind the chrome trim on the outside of the door!

As above but why would you want or need to do that ? also to remove the lock you have to release the chrome thumb piece, you have to release the spring clip. to get to that you have to remove the window i noted the two torx screws that somehow always sheer off in my post.

Getting the grey and black plastic bit off the back of the lock is a bit of a pain I'm afraid. You need to lift both tabs on either side simultaneously even then it's quite stiff.
Once you have removed it it's then possible to check the back of the lock to see if it's broken and also disassemble the grey and black bit to see if the cable inside is intact.

OK then, I have removed the two torque screws without a problem and the handle is loose. So are you saying the you can leave the handle in place, Unclip the clip to remove the offending part. but to do that you need to remove the glass?
