RDS will display the radio station name like Radio1, Classic rather than showing you the frequency .

More info on RDS here.
More useful feature of RDS IMHO is AF (alternative frequency). This changes to a stations strongest signal as you drive along.

Hi All, just a quick message from Cathey just incase your wondering how they are progressing with the RDS on the new 8733 unit.
Recieved 5th Jan 10: Dear Steve, Hello... Thank you for your kind inquiry. For the Rover 8733, the RDS not yet finished by our factory, as you may know, the rds, Ipod function is a new function, factory should develop. so it need enough time to change the software, pls kindly understand. But with the ipod function, DVB-T , usb is available stock now, so if you like, you can purchase one now, for gps map, if you need tomtom & igo8 separately, it's OK, Now for this model cost only: 360$ special for Rover Club memmbers, so if any of your good friend want this dvd, pls kindly tell them of the news. Pls kindly confirm your real demand request by return asap! Cheers Steve. |

Just spoken to Cathy on MSN... She says the RDS function is still being developed, but should be ready mid to late January!
I guess this is just a guestimate on her part, but hope it's not too far from reality!! |

Double Din HU
Just heard about these units today, been out of circulation for a while. They look really good and I am definitely interested in one with DBT. RDS yes but not ipod.
Who's coordinating? this or is it a DIY ordering process? Andrew |

DIY I'm afraid. Haven't taken the plunge myself yet (waiting for RDS to become available), but from what I have read it seems a very straight forward process.
"Cathy" is certainly responsive to any e-mails, and will no doubt advise on a price for whatever spec you require. Cliff

Thanks Teflon, I might be being a bit thick here but I've followed the links earlier in the thread to a site with about 20 pages of similar looking devices but couldn't identify a MG/Rover specific unit.
Does anyone have the direct link? Andy |
