Default Its been a long time since I last visited, but I've still got my 75

Hi, I dont visit this site very often nowadays but i thought i would drop by to say hello.
The 75 that I've owned for near enough 9 years is still going strong and looking amazing after 20 years of age. There's been a few bumps along the way, but I've managed to muddle my way through them as the old aged gremlins have emerged. Mechanically the car has been very reliable over the years. Its only ever let me down once leaving me stranded in the middle of Wales. If memory serves me right, it was the cam sensor?. Once the engine cooled it started again and duly got it replaced. Other expenditures have been mainly replacing items that i could see or hear that we're showing signs of failure. Worn crank pulley, noisy fuel pump and sticky callipers. Last year the dreaded rust decided show it ugly head in the sills. Yes if it was an unloved car and i just viewed it as what its worth to what it costs to repair, it would of ended up meeting its maker, but i just couldn't bare to part with it, and took it to a classic car restoration specialist to repair both sills. Thinking back and a few hundred pounds lighter in the back pocket am i glad i decided to go this route.
Absolutely with no regrets. Today it's sitting in the sun looking fantastic and running like clockwork. I've also noticed very recently how much more attention it gets from strangers. I suppose there not as common as they once were on the road, and seeing one that's in such remarkable condition for its age is getting rarer by the day. People at work used to rib me (jokingly) about my car when I first bought it. I got all the jokey comments like "it's an old mans car" or just wait until it start breaking down "one liners"
Well their Ford Focuses and Astras where the ones that left them scratching there heads with extensive rot and reliability problems leaving my Rover surviving to fight another day. Today there tune has somewhat changed with admiration towards the old car.
I paid £1500 for the car way back then, and would probably still get around £1000 today. So £500 depreciation over 9 years is cheap motoring indeed. Granted money has been spent keeping her alive and kicking, but all cars cost money at the end of the day, and what better way is the to spend that money on a car you really like and enjoy. This year I'm saving up for some upper rear suspension arms. Mine are still good, but it's good to be only a matter of time before they let go. Once I've got them, it will take the "bite" out of cost of getting them sorted in the future.
Another amazing longevity item has been the exhaust. The back box has just been replaced after 20 years of abuse from our winters. Not bad going by any standards.
Anyway enough of my waffling and hope you have been doing well through the last year of this pandemic.
All the very best to you all.
Johnny.

Hi Johnny, did you live at Oswestry once upon a time, and organise the meet at Llangollen some years ago? or am I mistaken.

Yes that's me and still live Oswestry. My memory is a little vague but i think it was a "Dave" who organised the meet with me giving plenty of suggestions. I can't remember his user name on here, but I do know him as dave and he has moved on to other car brands now.
Whilst I was talking about car gremlins in my opening post I'm going to try and pick your brains on an aircon problem in the maintenance section in a minute. Mine has given up the ghost and suspect its been over filled/pressurised.
I'll explain more shortly
All the best

I was in Oswestry a couple of weeks ago, I see the Rovers have gone that used to be parked on the garage front up the hill from the Wilfred Owen.

Ah i think I know the one you mean. It was a copper leaf 75.The elderly owner sold it on a couple of years back now, but he still likes his Rovers though and has an 800 series now. There's also a couple of very nice ZTs i see in the area regularly. One is in British racing green and the other is like an electric blue. There both really well cared for examples

Hi John. Funny someone should bring up the Llangollen Meet from way back, my wife and I were in Llangollen last Thursday. Our first ride out for over 12 months due to this pandemic thingy. I remember the meet. The usual geezer with the red car won the best turned out car. Think his moniker was Bob. I think he has got a yellow car also. Are, I remember, Red Five and Yellow Banana.. Nice to know you still have the car Johnny. Keep in touch with the club and let us know how you get on.

How you doing David (hope your well)
I can't remember the last time I visited Llangollen. It's only a few miles from Oswestry, but as its over the border in Wales, and with there Covid rules different to England I've kept well away. Ironically i do however work in Wales, and have had a couple occasions of being stopped by the police asking where I'm going too in the morning as I've entered Wales. Once told I'm off to work they've been fine. There's a small village by me called Llansantffraid and the border runs along the length of the road with pubs either side. It was a strange sight to see the pubs open on one side whilst the ones opposite where forced to close. It made an interesting situation for the locals to be sneaking across the road for a crafty pint last summer

Apart from being sick and tired of restrictions because of Covid19, we are doing ok. I have been driving my KV6 2.5 around for the last 12 months.still got the cdt, and still in good nick in the garage. Will be getting rid of the KV6 soon, and putting the diesel back on the road. I honestly think the diesel is a better car, even though the KV6 is a connoisseur SE with quite a few playthings, and the diesel is a club, it is a better ride and feels more solid.
