Default Ambient temperature sensor help

My sensor is missing - and having gone fishing behind my lower grille I have found some mangled and slightly snapped wiring on the left hand side that I think once went into a sensor. Unsurprisingly it's reading -30 in the cabin and I want to correct this.

What's my best solution - should I find one being broken, cut the wiring off and splice it together? Or is there a better solution?

If you send me your address by pm I'll send you one FOC, I've got a spare one on my new bumper that I'm going to fit
Im not sure whether it works properly but it looks ok so should hopefully be fine.

Is that the sensor itself or the wiring to it? I have got a sensor to go on, but the wiring to attach it to is an utter mess and whatever connector it's meant to clip into has vanished.

If you mean the wiring, then I shall with pleasure! Thanks!

Think you'll find -30C is normal reading if a problem with the sensor e.g. not connected.

It will also affect MPG due to misinformation being fed to ECU IIRC

Ive got the wiring, plug, sensor and bracket. You can have any part or all of it if you like, just let me know which bits you want

PMing you as we speak, Freck. Thank you!

Chipsceola - didn't know it would affect mpg. That explains the somewhat lacklustre figures I've been getting - I assumed it was my leaden right foot!

Yes, with it not connected the ECU overfuels the car, effectively it's like running about with the choke on all the time

Your rear heated window may also be on every time you start up but you can just switch that off.
