Default eBay help please

Hi

I have only ever bought things from the uk eBay site so I would like help for this. My wife has found some crafting bits and pieces on the eBay international site. It comes from Turkey but is priced in US dollars. It has to be paid by paypal so does paypal change it into £ before I pay also do I get charged import fees or whatever it's called?

Probably a basic question for those who do it all the time but I am in the dark about these things

Thanks for any help

Ken

Ps its my fault for giving her my laptop password

PayPal automatically converts Sterling to $US for you. I think that Customs duty is a bit hit and miss. If Customs do stop the item and decide to charge duty I understand that they contact you to pay the duty before the item is sent on. I have only purchased items from within the EU so perhaps others can clarify the Customs issue.

Not sure to be honest but it looks like it may be a bit more than that. Just to be on the safe side I have found a place in Germany which does the same things as she wants so I will order from there. The prices are around the same so it seems easier than going to Turkey.

I have just ordered some stuff from China and the $ did change to £ on paypal automatically. It feels like I got a bargain as the $44 went down to £29! but I know I didn't

It amused me that the wedding dress came from China as my niece got hers from somewhere in Ashby

I paid duty on a camera lens I bought from the USA on ebay which I paid at the couriers office (they left a card saying the duty had to be paid before they could release the package) so there was no real delay getting the item.

Having said that I have bought four lenses from over there and they didn't ask for any duty to be paid on the other three so I think I did quite well. It all seems a bit hit and miss whether you have to pay or not. I was aware when I ordered them that it could be necessary to pay so it didn't come as a shock when they asked for the money.
