Default Road tax

No doubt discussed before but what is road tax on an 04 plate zt190?
Dvla website suggests 6 months costs £354!

Shouldn't be, unless something has changed recently. Mine's a 54 plate 190 and I pay three hundred and something for a year.

Don't forget to factor in the 3x normal annual increase in the VED post April 2023 budget.

Why do you say it is 3x normal increase? Did it not go up 10.1% which is the normal RPI increase. I cannot see any where where it is a 30% increase, unless I am mistaken.

Inflation wasn't running at over 10% in previous years. Why is it linked to inflation anyway?
It's a tax on road use.

Agreed inflation was not running at 10% in previous years and the increase was a lot less.
It is effectively a tax on the COST of road use and RPI is as good as any. A lot of benefits etc are linked to RPI. Unfortunately, as nice as it would be, one cannot change the index used for increase every year depending on what suits us or the government

What semantics Eh! HMGOV changes rating bases at appropriate times without public decree or discussion, usually in successive budgets. The rate, if being attributed only to road repair costs and disbursements, is decided by whom?

Who gets to see contractors' meeting minutes where costs and balance sheets can be examined to ensure reasonable margins are maintained and in the public's interest? Do we really think we are that well informed or advised?

Here's one payer that views every single syllable emanating from those corridors, whatever colour they might be, with hefty suspicion. Blaggards.
