Default Name or Username?

when it comes to PM's I'll address it to peoples name, when it comes to a post I almost, if not always use their username with perhaps one exception.

Is there an etiquette for posts? I don't want to cause offence but I could by addressing the post to the username and not the name.

This sort of leads me to asking, why do we have user names if we address posts to the name?

Careful. You might regret that comment if you breakdown in Nederland.I think Trikey is a very lithe bloke. He needs to be to get under my car if I breakdown in Nederland.it won’t make any difference if you breakdown because you will have cooked your goose.

Never seen the point of user names. I've nothing to hide - my user name is my real name....

As my dear old long departed Dad used to say.
You can call me anything you like, as long as it's not late for dinner.
Cheers
