Fitted a replacement front passenger door to get rid of the damaged old one (I bought it that way) and also a new driver's electric door mirror as the existing one wouldn't scrunch out enough to provide a proper wide view. My body-repair buddy had quoted £200 to repair the door but suggested that I get hold of a replacement for around £50 and he'd spray it for £75 which I thought was a great idea.
After trawling eBay, I found...... an mostly-intact exact-match breaking car in Wigan (2½ hrs away)! Colour, trim, everything identical so definitely worth a drive. They were happy to pull the door off for me and let me have it for £35 intact and in working order. Took the wifey for a romantic day out at the breakers (via McDonalds - I know how to show a good time..) and came home with a super new door, an immaculate matching driver's seat for £15 (mine has stitching showing) and the driver's door mirror for a tenner. The seat was a bit wet as the car had several inches of water inside so it's drying nicely for a few days. Happy days.

Cleaned inside and out, tried to get the IPK to fail again but no luck just now. Have new improved lighting to fit in the boot ordered now and some of ye olde Captain Tolleys too as there is still a drip from one of the clips for the rear screen so that should help sort that.

Sunshine and warmth today, so went to fit the new Wahler thermostat on the top hose due to low running temps and slow/low interior heating. Joy of joys - the car already had one fitted so that saved some dismantling and getting the hacksaw out. Couple of pre-fitted hose clip removals later, out came the old (79Ί!) stat and in went the new (89Ί) one. 10 minute job, quick drive with the IPK test #7 displaying between 85Ί and 89Ί, and job jobbed. I used my hot air gun to soften the hose as the old stat didn't want to come out. It did easily after that.
Also fitted the new £15 driver's seat. The airbag connectors had already been cut and hard-wired on the car but done well, so it was an easy cut 'n solder job after the mandatory battery disconnect and wait. The seat's perfect. More sunshine tomorrow so aftermarket parking sensors to fit front and rear. Another it is then.

Well today, I fixed he last outstanding item on the MOT failure sheet, retest booked for tomorrow, changed handbrake compensator for a modified one, adjusted handbrake, so the wheels are locked fully on 3 clicks, holds on 2 so well up to standard to get a pass, all being well that's it for another year,

Good luck then. I did my handbrake compo a few weeks ago and what a balllache that was! Results were amazing though like yours.
Dougie.

Was doing 70 in mine today, along with just about everyone around me, and keeping well clear of the arctic that was reversing back up the M1 over the chevrons as he had missed the M25 interchange.

Pity the police weren’t around, although they may have him on cctv. Hope he gets done for dangerous driving.

Fitted a nice new battery and was pleased to see the radio still works. Also fitted some mats to keep the carpets clean.
Then took it off to my local classic car club meet. Drove faultlessly, very smooth and quiet. Ordered some new no plates as well. |
