Failed driver door latch motor...
or is it?
Oh well I thought, the driver's door lock stopped working from the fob and interior button, so I use the key to lock and unlock it. Then I noticed that sometimes it opens from the fob or button... but only now and again. Anyone else had this? Previous experience has been it works, or it stops working completely, not sometimes. Some confirmation would be handy before I replace it. Ta.

Hi. Had the same problem last week. It was the lock motor that was intermittent.
Bit of a fiddly job but ok to replace. Make sure you have some new trim clips as they break easily. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=91292 Here are the clips I used. Great for the job https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F291836053012

One of the common failings on our cars, I've done loads of these, in fact I've got another to do next week for a customer.
Yes it's handy to have a couple of clips and make sure you get the proper fir tree clip for the top rear one, otherwise your door card will keep popping off at the top Russ

Thanks chaps. I'll get a quote from my excellent Rover garage first. I could do it but there's other stuff I need to do instead, and anyway I want to bring it in for them to look at the lumpy idling... something else I may be able to sort out myself, but, well, see above...

Well, here's a thing. I noticed I had to be right next to the car with my hand on the key blade for the fob to work, so I renewed the battery.
Lo and behold! The driver door lock works fine now. This got me wondering, was the driver lock failing to pop a feature, ie the car telling me I needed to change the battery? There were no messages on the dash about low fob battery.

The solution to this one is to buy a new actuator and put it in the shed. My drivers door lock started playing up 4 years ago, so ordered the actuator waiting for it to fail properly, but since then it has worked flawlessly. I remain convinced i will need to replace it, but surprised how long since it last failed to operate. |

The winter weather seems to affect them. If the car is in the garage, no problem. When left out in the cold, it sometimes takes a couple of presses. One of my back doors always takes three!!!
