Someone has definitely been messing around in there, my next question would be has someone put a replacement ECU core in your original case.

Russ
Unfortunately i cant answer that. I knew the ecu has been fiddled with because one clip on the plastic box is broken.

I have only had the car for 3 years, and apart from the starting in drive issue is perfect, runs well and everything else works as it should.

You would think someone who knows enough to replace a core would know enough to put it back in the right way around.

The car has a 160 remap done prior to my ownership so i am wondering if it might be one that was done by post and whoever put it back did it wrong.

Could a remap cause it to have been set up wrong at all with regards to the starting in drive?

The display in the IPK correctly shows the gear selection, so it seems to know it is an auto.

The ecu is clearly very tight in the plastic box, hence why i didnt fancy pulling it out. Never feel too comfortable messing with 16 year old connectors if i can avoid it. In all other respects the cables going to the box dont appear strained or out of place. Its only guys like you who have seen more than one who know its wrong.

Just to let you know that the VIN on the ECM matches the vehicle VIN. Think it's time to take Phil T4 up on his offer and pay a visit to Milton Keynes as I also have another modification that will need T4. Thanks again for your help Brian and I'll PM you Phil to arrange a meet.

The connectors are at the top - mine is like this too

I thought this was correct as the V6 has the connector at the top

Might explain why I had such an almighty fight getting the bleedin' thing back in the plastic box after removing to check the VIN matched.

But surely it is better with the connectors at the top as they are further away in the event of the plenum blocking?

Mine certainly looked as if it was as it should be. The cables seem a perfect fit in their grommits on the side.

Maybe a previous owner turned it over for just such a reason as you suggest.

Apart from starting in drive it has certainly not caused a problem for the car in the 3 years i have owned it.

Actually RAVE shows the connectors at the top as well - C0331, C0332, C0603, C0604, C0606. Although the the ECU shown in RAVE is facing the other way around (label towards the engine) it is the same way up as David's and mine

Bit of an update on this. Took the car to Jules, who T4 checked it and confirmed i have the right ECU all paired to the right car correctly, i must admit i forgot to mention if it was upside down or not, but he never mentioned it either.

Anyway, it looks like I need a new inhibitor switch if anyone has one?

I will post separately in items wanted.
