Class 47 was the basic loco on the BR driving course up here when I was on it, early '80s. Went into the 47 at a nut and bolt level, for some reason the firing order has always stuck in my mind, 6-2-4-1-5-3 on A bank, 1-5-3-6-2-4 on B bank. No idea why I still remember that, never any use at the best of time The class 27 was the 2nd loco on the course.

I’ve always enjoyed DIY and tinkering with lockdown and all that’s been going on I’ve built a new garden type room for our rescue bunnies which I really enjoyed doing, so looking at garage/workshop and going to start making hutches, kennels etc.

Also enjoy walks at weekends with the grand daughters especially down the beach but can’t with the current restrictions 😡

Going to vintage and classic vehicle events, holidays in the caravan, driving coaches, which is actually a part time occupation, also interested partially in steam trains and diesel locomotives. Looking round historic buildings too. Oh and meeting up with fellow club members, since joining the club I now have friends scattered all over the country, from the Scottish highlands to the south coast and Cornwall

Local politics - Councillor for 18 years, Mayor in 2018/9.
Automobilia - Buy something at every Classic Show I attend (up to 30 a year prior to Covid)

I fired a number of steam locos on the main line in my BR secondman days, early '80s. Did it because it was something different. Most of the training was given in the messroom by the older drivers and on the job, no formal training as such, pick it up as you go along! List includes LNER A4 Pacific, "Union of South Africa"; numerous Black 5s, NBR J36 "Maude" on many occasions; LNER V2 "Green Arrow" and finally, BR 9F "Evening Star". There was talk of a driver training course at Carnforth but it never happened.
