Default Cloudy Walnut Dash

Some months ago I bought a 'new' walnut dash which I stored in the house until Craig and Ravinder very kindly fitted it for me 5 weeks ago.

I'm just back from my honeymoon and have discovered that the instrument section of the dash has gone cloudy. However when the temperature gets up inside the car such as the scorchers of the past few days the cloudiness disappears only to have returned the next morning.

Does anyone have any experience of this or know why its happening? It has been suggested that it's moisture trapped underneath the lacquer.

Any suggestions on a fix would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a reaction to heat between the layers of the dash panel. The wood may be coming away from the top layer. I notice on the edges where the join is strongest, it appears to be ok.

I'd say the dash has been stored somewhere damp and has absorbed moisture. It needs to be ventilated to get rid of the moisture as it surfaces. I reckon it will resolve after a while, especially at this time of the year.

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Re-direct left in old. This may be the better forum as threads get ‘lost’ very quickly in the General Forum.
