Running a FBH off the car?
I’ve got a fuel burning heater here that I intended fitting to my car, but I haven’t got the wiring and can’t see me ever trying to wire it in from scratch. So I was wondering if anyone had ever run 1 without it being on a car? Thinking it might be a way of getting some heat in my garage in the winter. I’ve got the dosing pump, I’m sure I’ve got an old bike tank I could use to store the diesel, and I’ve got an old car battery that wasn’t able to start my wife’s car last winter, but I’d have thought would be ok to run the FBH.
If this is viable does anyone know how I’d have to connect the wiring, so it’s a simple on/off, and what sort of pipe work I’d need for the water, just a simple bit of pipe going to a car radiator or something? I’m sure I’ve read people have used these to heat boats and campervans before. Thanks. |

Yes been done a few times, just google webasto boat heater and im sure it will bring up a few results, you wont need anything as big as a bike tank to store the fuel as the webasto is quite frugal.

Hi Derrick.
I thought all CDT & CDTi had the wiring in place for a FBH I presume you have checked down the side front of battery the wiring should be in a little plastic bag, the dosing pump wiring will be under the rear seat remove the steel cap and you should find it Arctic.

*edit* I wrote the reply before looking at the pics, I'll have another look under the seat, as I do seem to remember seeing a little bag with some connectors in by the battery box when I took it out to fit something else. |

Nearly all the dosing pumps are rusty they just need a good clean up, and then given a protective paint cover.
