Drive it around till it’s warmed up, then for about 15-20 minutes in third gear but hang on to the revs allowing them to climb higher than normal. If it’s 6 speed go on the motorway in 5th but don’t go mad with it.
Have to do that with the Polo Bluemotion at least once a year |

We had a diesel patrol car at work. every now and then we'd take it for a run on the motorway up to leeds and back to get the cat cleaned out. We were told above 40mph for 20 mins. This is so the temperature can burn off the nasty bits that accumulate through stop/start journeys. I would think the DPF is similar.

Now that the current DPF is clogged to the extent that a regen cannot be effected, I would get a cleaned replacement unit on the car and then give it a good high-rev run of about 50 miles at least every few weeks.
I don't believe that washing with water really achieves much - the unit should be cleaned with appropriate chemicals produced for the job. I would go to someone like this outfit and just change the DPF in the first instance then see how things ago. http://dpf.seoboost.uk/product/vauxh...culate-filter/ This is the approach that I would take as I would happily take the risk with the circa £500 for a cleaned unit and fitting. I would suggest that any car that spends its time at low speeds running around town needs a good "thrash" every now and then.
Going back 35 years my motorbike always ran better after I had been away to visit my girlfriend, 160 motorway miles. just cleaned the cob webs out In the news there was a Range Rover that spent its time in town, I think the owner had problems and blamed the car for being poorly made. Garage explained it is due to being in town all the time and never having a decent run macafee2 |

many thanks for the replies chaps. I've been in touch with my sister and I get the impression her mokka is repairable at a much lower cost than 'Plan A'. Will repost with an update, probably in a couple of weeks.

One reason why my diesel is an old BMW Rover. Despite the fact it does very little town driving or short journeys. I've heard some real horror stories about Mazda's forced regen diluting the engine oil with diesel to the extent they suffer bigend/main bearing failure.

Forte do this too, it basically softens the particles as you drive then when you give it decent run it improves the stability of the DPF rather than a quick internal clean. (About £16 a bottle).

An update on this: My sister took her Mokka to the Forte garage as mentioned in post 16 for what I thought was goiung to be a DPF clean on their super duper Forte machine. Now, I have no idea what the Forte machine does but they said the DPF didn't need a clean at all. I haven't seen the invoice of work carried out but my sister mentioned they had to reset a few things. The DPF light has gone out and the vehicle is no longer in limp mode. The price they charged was £64.40. ( yes, sixty four pounds and forty pence (incl VAT)).
Compare this to what the original garage said was wrong and what needed replacing ( cost circa £1831 (incl VAT)). I've read a few money saving threads resulting from advice on here but this one is particularly impressive. Many thanks Bap Last edited by hinged_bap; 3rd August 2019 at 15:57.. |
