Talking Noisy webasto !

Can anyone tell me how loud the webasto gets when running? now the cold weather is with us it is doing the job but it seems quite loud,I can hear it even when I am at 50, if I put my hand over the air intake or my finger into the foam liner it goes quiet, the heater is having to do extra at the moment as the thermostat has failed open (part ordered from rimmer bros) so the engine is running cool, I bought the car in feb and when it occasionally ran then i am sure it wasnt as loud.

Does the burner have a silencer fitted on it's exhaust side?
I believe that cars from the factory with the Webasto timer or remote switch are the only ones that will have a sliencer fitted as standard.
Factory fit cars with just the FBH may just have had a straight through exhaust pipe.
If someone has retrofitted a timer or remote switch to make the FBH a parking heater, they may not have changed the straight through exhaust pipe over to the silencer type of exhaust that should be fitted.
Alternatively someone may have removed the exhaust or it may have fell off from your FHB heater alltogether. Dangerous, because the heat generated is significant and could cause damage in the engine bay compartment.

Thats interesting. Has anyone experienced both...? [And can they decribe them both in text...!] i.e. is the silencer really good? I quite like the jet engine roar as it starts up unsilenced, but i can see now why you would want to fit one it its going when 'standing'.

(Just got my timeswitch working.... abandoned the relay, tapped into pin 1 direct from timer output pin. Should have read the webasto kit instructions a lot lot earlier...!)

the other thing I notice now I can switch on and off in comfort without one hand on pin3 and the other having to hold a clothespeg and piece of wire onto one of the bolts of the strut top, is how noisy the clicking from the solenoid pump is. No need to get down and feel it to check it's working....

Hi Maxi as Lovel said check if you have any exhaust at all

My car had a new clutch before I bought it and I reckon they had a few bits left over! as the entire exhaust was missing

I went out and bought the solid FBH exhaust and the silencer the difference with the silencer is quite noticeable and definitely recommended to avoid odd looks from pickled pedestrians when operating remotely

I think silencer, exhaust and two clamps cost me about £30

Default V2 or what!

Noise from any of the small compact heaters Webasto,Mikumi and the Ebspacher have been likened to a V2 taking off in the quiet world of canals and out off town lorry parks, you are not alone!

The exhaust is there, straight through, and complete, looks like stainless steel.
what does the silencer look like?

If the noise gets too much for anyone I'll take the FBH off their hands......

Default Description of the exhaust

Hi. the default exhaust is about 90mmX90mmX30mm. It is constructed of SS and has a stub pipe on each end about 20mm in diameter.
Try "Webasto" on search engine and take it from there.
