Judder on setting off.

My 75 tourer CDTi has developed a new worrying habit. When taking up drive from cold (manual gearbox) the engine judders initially. At the end of my road about 100 yds I stop and then turn right up a gradient and it might judder again. After that the car behaves as normal regardless of the number of times I have to stop and set off again. Similarly, if the car is parked for a while, it doesn't judder when I move off. Its just when its cold!
The clutch was replaced over a year ago and since then the car has only done about 5000 miles.
I had the back engine mount replaced about two months ago to cure a clunk!
Any thoughts?

Flywheel or bearing on the long driveshaft.

Don't like the sound of that - presumably if its the flywheel its a gearbox off job to fix? If its the long driveshaft bearing????

Another driveshaft is the easiest way, yes if it’s flywheel it’ll be a box off job I’m afraid.

Is it felt through the clutch on take up, or once the clutch pedal is released?

A very small trace of oil on the face of the clutch driven plate can also cause an initial judder but disappears almost at once as the plate slips and heats up.

Over the years I've had a car or two with that kind of judder. I let the plate slip a little to lose the judder. It would only appear again the next day when the plate was again cold.

Many thanks for the replies to my post. I suspected that something was contaminating the fly wheel and wondered where it might be coming from.
Rear crank oil seal ?, gearbox or possibly and my worse fear, brake/clutch fluid from the slave cylinder.
I have had a belly full of grief since having the clutch replaced over 18 months ago (when it probably didn't need it!) and there's still air in the system which I overcome with an occasional pump of the pedal.
Anyway in order to test to see where the judder was coming from yesterday I started the car and drove it away in 1st without using the throttle pedal - just tick over revs and - nothing - no judder whatsoever and so it was throughout the rest of the day. Will see what happens in future.
My old Boxer motorbike leaks from the rear crank seal occasionally and then stops of its own accord - hopefully my Rover will do the same!
