That'll save me £30 in that case

Despite the weather conditions over the past few days, I have managed to complete part A of this project today i.e installing the FBH . The parking heater bit will follow over the next while.

It really was a pretty easy job. All the wiring/piping is in place, so in addition to the FBH I purchased, all I needed was the fuel pump. That cost €25/£20 inclusive of carriage from eBay.de.

The whole job probably took an hour, although that was spread over several days due to the weather. The excellent "how to" is a great help. I hardly lost any coolant as I clamped the pipes as recommended and caught any leaks in a jar, which I returned to the rad.

Like a lot of jobs I have tackled on my 75, I would not have attempted this one without the help of this Club. Thanks to Black Olive, Lovel & Tony_Fry and especially Keith for ensuring that I had a working FBH in the first place .

I would recommend this retro-fit to anyone that has a diesel car without the FBH. And of course its no good without the parking heater .

I would suggest that once you have them up and running you buy the add on silencer and do a bit of surgery on the exhaust as that makes a big difference to the noise especially if the car attracts worried glances in car parks etc!

Tony did you send a cheque for the second unit to cover my postage etc??

Oh no... i've tried to convince myself that I can't do this but I seem to follow CDTi down the routes of upgrades! What i'd like to know are:

1. What is the difference between the normal FBH and the Parking Heater?
2. What is the thing that goes under the arm rest

Sorry if I sound thick

Parking heater is what you have when the Webasto FBH can be independently controlled, either by a remote (Telestart) or a timer (the thing that goes under the armrest).

The idea being that you can have your engine and interior warmed up and windows de-iced / de-misted if required before you start your journey.

Although it will probably be next winter before I get the benefit of this retro-fit, I is well worth it IMHO.

The cost to me for the basic FBH is about £225. That was for the FBH, repair by Keith and the remote pump from eBay.de. I got a T100 Telestart from Paul for the parking heater function. The T100 is a top of the range system, but you could easily just use a simple toggle switch to fire the FBH up so it functions as a basic parking heater.

In addition to the T100, I hope to use a spare heated seat switch to give a 15 minute burn (the seat switch has a built in 15 min timer). This means that the T100 remote will not always be required.

There are several people on here now who have done this, so don't be afraid to ask for any assistance .

What I'd like to manage is to use the Telestart to run the Webasto for 15 minutes and THEN switch on the interior heating.

Just add a timer in line with pin 4 from the FBH.

I have ordered one of these: http://www.quasarelectronics.com/vk8015.htm. You can set the time delay as required.

Apparently the older ECUs didn't activate the heating until the coolant reached a certain temp.
