Well can't run the risk of someone being knocked unconscious by a piece of polystyrene I suppose:

Wow, a 787 recently overshot Heathrow and has diverted to France, poor passengers. Oh no, they're being sent to Geneva!

I blame the media - it would all be fine if they didn't report the weather!

People in Shetland are watching the news and saying:

"it's a good drying day for the washing down south"

good day gone bad. The day had been going well but a large area of felt roof has come off my barn/workshop.
I am here alone so not venturing up onto the roof as the wind is still strong. I am not surprised it has come away but I have that sick feeling. Will have to wait for the wife to come home and then I will go on to the roof and try screwing some 3x2 across the felt or I may even have to put plastic damp proof course on to it.

still hours of wind to come

Today...so far...

I had two greenhouses and now have one half of one. On the first one, one pane goes and the rest give up the ghost in abject surrender. The second (also the ‘best’ one) lost five panes in one go. Also had two fence panels blow out.

On my visit to the local mini market for a paper and a bottle of plonk, an elderly lady with her doggie of similar vintage (on a lead) got blown over. Her beloved pet licked her face and tugged on the lead. The lead loop handle escaped the lady’s tender but failing grip and Fido toddled off home without so much as a backward glance.
