It was one of the original ones, so pre-facelift.

Well just to go against the grain I've had a couple of these and they were dreadful!

dont get me wrong they look fantastic but...

the big bugbear with the pre 2003 shape is engine sludging. the oil pickup in the sump sludges and starves the engine then the motor goes bang. This is common and has been known even on cars with good history.

i paid £2.5k for one a few years back with a near fully stamped book and 70k. It sludged and went bang on my way home!!

I also find them.sloppy to drive in convertible form.
although i think there are mods that can improve the steering.

My last one also randomly snapped its manifold bolts in the head which of course was a joy.

On a sunny day you feel a million dollars in one.. but i wont have another.

I had an 06 reg Lime Yellow 93 vert, in fact it replaced my 75 (sorry!)! It was the lower spec model, but ex-demo, so fitted with many of the Vector and Aero toys, including remote roof opening. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it wasn't free of problems, including EGR. This of course could have been because it was my daily drive, so had many short as well as longer journeys.

Being diesel, it shared the Euro 4 engine with Vauxhall and Fiat etc, so engine spares were no problem. For instance I bought an EGR blanking plate from a Vauxhall main dealer, and it came in a sealed Fiat bag.....

IIRC, pre 05 cars had a reputation for bulkhead cracks, so I would avoid, but apart from that it's like buying any other older vehicle.

I've since gone back to a convertible, I have a folding hardtop Volvo C70, which while like the Saab doesn't have the easiest access to the rear seat, once in, again like the Saab, is very comfortable, with normal legroom.

I'd say go for it!

I have to say, I love the SAAB 93's and if I had some spare cash, I would buy an Automatic Convertible, so if anyone has a spare 3.5k then this is the baby, you can PM me for delivery details

That's a nice looking piece of machinery. I trust we can look forward to seeing some high res pictures after you get it home?

Nice one! I loved my Saab 95, but the fuel economy was abysmal as it was the 2 litre engine with a turbo which died and got rebuilt and made much bigger and lower in the rev range, which was fun, but less economical again! I loved it, but needed a car more like the 9-3 with the bigger boot opening, hence I got a Honda estate which was okay but s-l-o-w.
When my dads' car had issues, he found a low mileage 95 diesel and it's great! I would have a soft top in a heartbeat!

Plus, I think they look really classy and great. A proper grown-ups car.
