My wife is American and therefore simply has to BBQ regularly. Doesn't matter if it's sunny or not! I asked her once if she wanted a gas one and she laughed in my face and asked what the point was. I told her about the convenience and the oils etc. but she likes her charcoal fired one. Got her a starter like the link above and it's a doddle! Shove the coals in, light a tiny fire lighter underneath, 5 minutes later, white hot coals perfect for cooking. It's fun in the rain, with the water sizzling off the hot lid of the BBQ.

I have to say, being a hugely fat food addicted slob, I do like her cooking, and her BBQ tastes like nothing else. Never had burgers taste the same on a gas BBQ, nor the chicken breasts or spam! There's something about the smoky char-grilled taste that just gets lost with gas.

Yes. BBQ Spam. It works.
