Her clutch ain't gonna last !
We were at Prestwick beach yesterday with the grand daughters having an ice cream and I was admiring a nice 75 Connoisseur in Royal Blue with a personal plate K80 ...
Just before we left an older lady with I assume her husband got in so I watched as she pulled off. Well what a shocker, it was obviously a manual and a 4 cylinder as the engine was screaming as she took up the drive. Thinking it maybe a one off, no as she turned in the car park there were several more instances of high revving then as she got back on the road to the amazement of some passers by she screamed off up the road at well over the limit with the engine practically flat out and clutch still slipping. I've got no sense of smell but the missus said she could smell the horrid smell of her clutch burning out....... very soon I suppose. |

I do wonder if it will be fixed or scrapped.

My mum and dad are the same.........deaf as posts.
Cant hear the engine note change so the clutch take a while before its allowed to engage properly. Mum had 2 clutches in 3 years with only 6k travelled. Mum doesnt drive now. Im still trying to convince my dad to quit too. |

Whilst my Nan was alive and still drove, it was a running joke that she got through a clutch every year. Says she was taught to drive like that, which was, of course, rubbish. Going down a hill, instead of using the gears, she'd drop it into a low gear, and ride the clutch and brake all the way down. Pulling out of a drive, which was flat, the accelerator was floored and the clutch slipped. Horrible smell and horrendous noise. If her foot ever slipped off the clutch, she'd go flying into a wall! Fortunately she only had a little Ford Fiesta Popular, so it wasn't quick, and the clutches were cheap and easy to replace.
Absolutely zero mechanical sympathy whatsoever. I do believe it is an age or more likely, a generational thing. You don't see / hear / smell that kind of thing as often as you used to. Thank God! (Or Allah, or whomever you prefer) |
