I swap the relays as you suggest and that will stop the pump running continuously, but the pump will still leak, cos it's cheap chinese (probably) made rubbish?

Could the relay have failed because it's been getting soaked in diesel?

If so, is there a way of preventing the diesel getting into the bulkhead and screwing up another relay while I await the new pump?

Thanks again
I have the Pierburg pump I removed from my ZT which was noisy but original, and a supply of two relays

It might well have caused an issue with the original relay being soaked in diesel, if fact it's pretty likely, and you can test that relay easily enough.....if you place it in the right hand upper socket your horn will sound continuously

So, it'll not harm to check to see if the fuel pump doesn't run continuously with another relay fitted, but the long term fix is a decent fuel pump

Brian

P.S. that tee shirt was bought brand new with tags from the bay of fleas as an Xmas pressie a couple of years back, so hasn't had the hammer it might have

I'll be sure to try that when I get up at 5am . Might even get some of the old codgers in the street twitching their curtains

So here's the offending relay swapped it for the power wash relay and pumps now turn off when they should. Just awaiting the arrival of my new super duper ubp.

Thanks all for your help 👍

Maybe too late, but here's both fuse boards and relays:

It may be that the seal in the connector on the top of the UBP had failed and fuel is getting into the cable that runs from the fuse-box relay to the pump.

Insulated stranded copper harness cables includes voids between the copper strands and the plastic insulation and this acts a pipe for the liquid under pressure.
