Never owned one but worked on a few. Had one come in, customer complaining of a wet carpet. On inspection it turned out to be coming from the heater matrix hose, the hose was literally held in with nothing more than a thin piece of wire that resembled a paper clip. Under pressure it would expand and start leaking, that alone just showed me how low rent and cheaply these cars were built.

These things could have done MG Rover a massive amount of damage if they had survived. Selling such tat would surely have back fired on them eventually. Shows they didn't seem to be looking too far into the future.

It did cause them a huge amount of damage, no one bought them and the company went bust.

Bought one last week as a city centre banger.

Actually no where near as bad as people say. But I wouldn't have fancied paying 7k new for it.

Nice to here an honest review of what the car was intended to be. An honest basic city transport. Cheap on all fronts that is all you need to go shopping in.

Not a bad car for £200. It was 2k overpriced when new but then it was desperate times.

Absolutely, it was desperate times. But surely the pricing strategy was all wrong, if they sold them cheap enough they just might have sold them by the boat load. If they're cheap enough nobody is going to expect them to be great. But they had a perceived image to uphold, and this car failed on that front pretty miserably. Over pricing it wasn't going to make it a better car.

You get what you pay for, and they expected people to pay far too much.

Colin_NI Please keep us informed on how the cars performs and real world £££.
Did you get any history with the car eg. past MOT any servicing information?

Absolutely nothing what so ever. I will be doing a mini blog about it. I'm very curious about how cheap I can do it and will be only using official mg rover parts.

Case in point filler neck arrived. £15 quid.
