Caution with garages that don't have a clue about Rover cars.
My 75 has been off road and Sorn for over a year and a half. Issues: Drove car into the red, went to the shop before refuelling first and car never wanted to start. On joining the forum did i then realize the car shouldnt be run so low on fuel. The RAC man said there was no power to my underbonnet pump and decided to power the pump directly from the battery. I got about a mile or two away and noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet -Towed the the next 2 miles home. So, i replaced a new underbonnet and in tank fuel pump. Car still didn't start. Had a mechanic do a home scan and said it was my cam shaft sensor. Bought a new one and advised to get someone to do the Crank sensor too...No change. Then it appears the car intermittently starts but stalls hitting 1000 rpm. Off to the local garage by recovery she went and given a diagnosis.....blaming the ECU. My car was also returned by recovery with a dented wing too. Wont use them ever again. Thats another issue. I was advised cost of repair would be upto £400 - 500 plus V.A.T. ? So I sent the ecu off To Marinabrian on the group. If anyone could find a fault and repair it, he could. I thought it was the most sensible way to repair the car and not be kicked in the teeth with ridiculous fees i didnt have. Anyway Brian very promptly concluded it's was infact absolutely fine, so the garage "LIED". (Waste of my money). I later had a T4 diagnostic at home by the most local person to me over some 25 miles away. I was told the fault was my fuel sensor but unsure which one having 3. So i just replaced all 3. Still No change. She seemed to start here and there...idles well but stalls on 1000 rpm. You knew if you heard the underbonett pump kick in the car would start. Getting very frustrated I had looked around on the group and online and found someone with similar issues. They had a Throttle position sensor issue. So replaced this too and again, sadly nothing. I sent the car to another garage after saving some money I didn't have. They had her for 2 weeks. Scanned...no faults identified, but couldnt figure it out. So sending her back to me still not working. Gutted to say the least and not very optimistic of saving her from scrapping or selling as a spares or repair. At least they admitted they didn't have a clue. So I thought about giving up over and over again. Wife on my back for getting no where and spending money we simply dont have. I've spent hundreds of pounds and still not got the car working. So back to the drawing board ! I looked at T4 rover specialist most local to me all over again. Either way it was going to cost but I couldn't give up now....it's been to long and spent so much. I looked at Jules in North Wales who kindly helped with advice during the period. The cost to get Car Transported to him was pricey but I needed someone who wouldn't rip me off and give me a diagnosis. Surely not much to ask ? So one day my son got a T4 hit in Birmingham. I did some homework and decided this was where we were going. I dont know why my hits missed this. So i thought theres hope. I read many online messages on the group and else where praising the work of Terry shaw @ TS AUTOS in Stourbridge. Although he's semi retired he still does the job. So, I rang Terry and explained my issues. He kindly agreed to see the car and felt it sounded like a fuel starvation issue. I hired a transporter and off she went to Dr Terry. After just a few hours I recieved a text to say the car was sorted ! I was actually speechless....Doesn't happen often , honestly. I had a faulty fuel relay and my crank sensor bent and poorly fitted....causing the stall on 1000rpm. So the car stayed a few days in Dr Shaws gifted hands see how things went. He certainly gave her the TLC she needed. I arranged to go to Birmingham and I would get the car M.O.Td and drive her home. I asked Terry if he felt over the proceeding days if she was appropriate for MOT or I'd arrange re transportation back home to sort it here. On the day before collection I had a message to say she had a full MOT. I was absolutely delighted and a second time speechless with 1). His kindness to help me out and 2). The car passed MOT. We went to collect the car, had a great day and drove the car home to Cardiff. I couldn't believe how quiet the engine was after all he'd done the performance on point. Obviously there other jobs needed doing too like a new belt and other things but the cars working. He even gave me a list of things that needed doing too. Not something someone's ever done for me. It was the best money I've ever spent and a pleasure doing business with a Rover Specialist who knows what they are doing. Terry Shaw is a genuine gentleman, very trustworthy, reliable, skilled, knowledgeable and my HERO. So for those who love their cars and been most unfortunate like myself...don't give up. There are Mechanics out there that know there stuff. If you can't get any joy seek out a Rover Specialist most local to you. Their skill and knowledge has given me back my faith in Rover. Thank you Terry shaw, i have my independence back, Mrs off my back and car on the road. And just to conclude, the drive home was absolutely amazing and long overdue. This is why I love Rover cars..."Life's Good" Thank you to all the Mechanics out there that help us keep these cars on the road without ripping us off. We rely on you and the future of the remaining Rover made cars. It would be a shame to loose them.

This sort of thing is true of so many non-specialist garages today, they don't have the skilled mechanics and don't have the knowledge needed to deal with any but the very most basic car issues.
Worse still, you will be paying them to replace expensive parts while they use trial and error diagnostics.

Terry has a fantastic reputation and I'm glad your finally sorted. Unfortunately the newest of these cars are now 12 years old and so we are now getting to the stage where many garages won't have worked on any MGR cars for quite some time and so knowledge of the brand will be limited. Always going to a recommended source is the way forward

I has an "exhaust" noise so thought maybe exhaust had blown. Took it tio a Fast Fit and they said new front part of exhaust needed. Price was bonkers. So took it to my trusty local MG Rover specialist who simply tightened up the exhaust manifold nuts which had come loose. No charge and fixed in 10 mins. They may charge more per hour but they actually spend less time fixing my car because they know what they are doing. No trial and error there. The main reason I keep my car is because of them. They are in Bradford by the way if anyone needs a good place to take their cherished car

Have to agree – Terry did me a spare key a couple of years ago, and I got a very good impression of him.
Without this forum, my car would have been scrapped long ago. There are so many who have given their time up to help me that I won’t name names, as I’d forget and leave half of them out. I express my gratitude in a tiny way by subscribing – what is it, a tenner a year? And helping others who have simple faults I know about

A great story with a happy ending. .
Sadly we live in times when those that actually, genuinely know what they are doing and talking about and deliver quality goods/services are disappearing. Their skills are not valued by the general motorist (we're the exception) who know zilch about their car so can be subjected to the trail and error costs of the "computer says no" brigade. The good guys 'n' girls are out there in all sorts of places - the local independent butcher who's meat is fantastic but costs a bit more, ditto the fruit and veg shop, the "one man band" carpet fitter etc. etc. Support them or when you really need them they won't be there.
