Will Speeding soon be a thing of the past!!!
I've been reading a few car forums lately regards speed limits, Some of the Tesla guys are a bit miffed at one particular OTA (over the air) update where as if you engage 'auto-steer' or 'auto-pilot' it will not go over the maximum speed limit of that street/road.
I think the limit on highway driving isn't effected. Then I read a piece about the upcoming "Mandatory" EU safety systems to be installed in cars BY 2021. There are eleven & one of those features is a so called 'Intelligent speed assistance' "The system controls the speed of cars by scanning road signs “where possible” http://www.theweek.co.uk/93687/eu-li...tory-from-2021

It will come and it makes great sense to me. Cars should also have some gizmo which renders them completely inactive should they have no OT/insurance/Road Tax. This sort of thing has to be relatively simple to implement these days.

Often you will encounter conditions where driving at the speed limit is just plain nuts. This is giving the SMART generation a licence to drive with even more stupidity , just like the autonomous car driver who pointlessly killed a pedestrian while streaming some sort of talent show. Just how sad and far have we have came as race when a life is wiped out for the sake of someone's gratuitous benefit.

And as easily as it should be to implement, someone somewhere will find it easy to over-ride. I always think the more they take away from the driver the less they pay attention, because they don't have to think, there's a gadget that'll do it for them.

Of course the ultimate in technology will be when all cars are tracking the behaviour of those in their vicinity on the road and reporting this to central databases. The data can then be used for traffic enforcement, determining insurance premiums and so on. Also, with photographic evidence, no one will be able to claim that someone else was driving their car. The missiles mounted on overhead gantries will neutralize drivers who are becoming an excessive nuisance to others or violating the rules consistently. It's all coming! |

They are taking all the pleasure out of driving, I drive a variety of cars and I must say a lot of stuff leaves me cold. No driver feedback, a bing bong every time you go to do some thing or don't and when all these ''driver aids'' start failing they will either fail an MOT or cost you a months wages to fix.
How long will it be when reverse park sensors not working are an MOT failure? Reversing lights are already on the list. Hopefully our government will not implement all this stuff as we will be out of it by then. |

Not gonna create a poll here 'cos nobody should incriminate themselves but I do wonder.
What percentage of drivers do we think break the speed limit? Every trip. Sometimes. Never. I'd assume every trip may be as high as 90% |
