Default Advice on a tourer

I've just bought a 75 tourer British racing green. I has intended to break it as the seller said the rear suspension was knackered and had collapsed but I can find no such thing! It also has an mot.

Now the car is covered in scratches and needs a few bits done besides the paint also.

It's a diesel on 200k miles and the car is fully loaded harmon kardon system, high line nav sunroof power folds rain sensors cruise control tbh.

So now I wonder do I break it or get it fixed up and use it as my daily as my v6 is thirsty on the petrol.

Depends on how much you paid and what you want out of it.

Personally at 20k+ miles per year my diesel tourer paid for it's self in just the fuel savings compared to running the V6 in less than 6 months

Who wouldn't want a BRG tourer?

I am a bit biased though
Mines got 198k and a fair few scratches, but is used pretty much as a daily driver when I'm not in the van. I get between 28-33mpg as it is automatic.

I was going to ask you for some parts as I saw it listed for breaking! Maybe not now...

I've got a diesel tourer with 183K. Really bought as a stop gap for very few £££'s.

If she's basically a decent enough car I'd give her a good service - fluids/filters/check the brakes etc.then do the usual checks/mods - plenum/bonnet cables/vitons/gold resistor/handbrake compensator etc. and use her.

General scratches (if not too deep) can be quite effectively masked with something like Autoglym Super Resin Polish (SRP) which is widely available and can be applied by hand.

Unless she's got the potential to be really. really nice, I'd be tempted to do what needs doing to make her mechanically & electrically sound then give her a spruce up and drive her.

As has been said the savings on the cost of fuel alone will pay for a fair few bits and bobs.

Good luck.

Andy.

Thanks everyone I think that's made my mind up. I only paid £150 I think I will invest the money to get it fixed up. I'm doing about 12k miles a year so the fuel saving should be worth it vs the v6

I have always thought that if you are a v6 owner you never worry about your fuel bills lol.

I think for £150 you're probably into bargain category!
Can't go wrong at that price.

I bought my v6 for £200 last year as my first car and it was mint with only 60k miles on so I have been using since then. I was originally only a half hour drive from work but now I am over an hour since changing jobs so the diesel would make more sense fuel wise.
