Default Zt190+

Here's my ZT 190, WX02 MUC dubbed Frankenzed!
Bought in December off a chap that was going to break it. 146,000 miles, high spec and no history with the car, I took a chance and paid 450 to drive it away.

Wasn't always this good looking though. It's been neglected for a while.

A cracked bumper with a shoddy repair isn't much of an issue..

Interior cleaned up quite well..

tidy in the business end as well.

But thats where the good news ended...

First issue was the waterlogged carpet, so out it came.

Leaking sunroof drains caused it.

corroded airbag sensor too, but no airbag light.. not even on startup..

replaced with another sensor, drain tubes modified with plastic connectors and everything fitted back in. Now to investigate that airbag light..

That'll be why.. someones been in there and broken out the LED and also snapped the trip reset stalk.
I sourced the correct LED, soldered it in then repaired the trip stalk with the use of a part from my sons toy digger Even has the MG badge shape on the end!

airbag works as it should with no faults.

In the meantime, I managed to track down all the previous owners and wrote to them in the hope of getting hold of the history.
A quick call to an MG specialist that left a service sticker in the window revealed three services and a complete clutch change. Copy invoices came through the fax same day!
Took a couple of months, but got home one day to a package through the door.. The original book pack complete with owners manual, fully stamped and belt change documented!
Also backed up from an email from the owner who had them replaced.
So full service history, belts done, clutch done.. a result in my book!

Hope you never actually have to find out

It looks great, Xenons too, result! It goes to show, some testicular bravery, patience and a bottle of polish, some cars will come up trumps. Well done, and good luck!

The frankenstein moniker suits it, it was my immediate thought when I saw the bumper.

Next up was to change the lower engine mount. This was never going to do any good.

Then a leaking radiator replaced, and the bodged bottom coolant pipes replaced from this mish mash of old rubber..

to these single lengths..

While the front was off, that cracked bumper was hiding this..

Another shocking repair to the chassis leg end.
Not much I can do at the moment but have a new end plate on order. I'll eventually grind back the weld on the box section, spot weld a new plate on and paint it properly.

Water leaks in the boot next..

With the interior trim removed it was clear to see the boot lid seal was leaking

a bead of silicone around the whole aperature sorted that out, only to find a lot of moisture in the upper left. Siliconed the boot hinge bolts, no joy.
Turns out water was getting between the panels from a lack of seam sealant at factory.
More silicone here fixed the leak.
