Default T4 ???

I am looking at this T4 thing on the internet. Is this not just a piece of software ???
On a standard laptop ?
How does it connect to the car ? Only via the service connector ?
This service connecter is just a com port.
Now would it be possible to connect my car, via a elm unit, to my laptop.
And via the internet to computer running T4 ?
That would be great, remote service for my car.

Just some toughts.

I'm afraid it's not just some software linked to a com port and a lead.

The software is two part: an operating system that runs in a shell in windows XP and vitually takes over the whole computer (unless you change the registry). Secondly the diagnostic disc's for that range of vehicle's or application.

The software can be loaded onto any laptop but is useless without the T4 interface and leads (the expensive bit )

Elm and similar interfaces aren't suitable I'm afraid.

If there was a cheaper way of doing it, I would have done that instead

Most of the discs are redundant as software updates and improvements mean that normally only the latest discs are used

Using an older disc on a later car or on one that has had later updates applied has the potential to cause significant problems
