My nephew is one of the "interceptors" featured on the shows. I would not want his job for all the tea in China. They have so much to put up with and get very little back up from the courts. After all the hard work they put in, cases are often dropped on "technicalities" or the sentences are pathetic. He has been injured several times and one of his colleagues has suffered a complete mental breakdown due to PTSD. He says that the hardest part of his job is informing relatives of the loss of loved ones. Finding a small child, not belted in after a "pursuit" was one of his nightmares. The driver was high on drink and drugs!

My father was in the Police late 50s to late 60s including traffic cars (Austin Westminster!). That's back when the Police were respected rather than treated as the enemy. On the nightshift one traffic car based at Berwick On Tweed patrolled the whole of north Northumberland from the Scottish border right down to Morpeth!

Too much slap on the wrist sentencing, no deterent at all.
What is the point in banning someone from driving when they already have a history of driving without licence/insurance/MOT etc? It has to hurt to be effective. |

The vehicle was on Park Rd Chesterfield [just south of the town centre next to the Queens Park cricket ground]. It was owned for at least 2-3 years by a local resident who lived opposite, don't think he is/was a member on here.Think the reg no. was AV02 xxx, Wedgwood Blue diesel Connie tourer.
I normally park a few metres away from here when visiting Chesterfield Town Centre [nearest big town to where I live], but in the daytime, when things are a bit more normal, so often saw it parked. Usually I parked in my Wedgwood Blue tourer and, before the accident, a few locals thought my car was his and had some interesting conversations. Alas, never met the owner, but really glad he wasn't in it when that idiot rammed the car. BTW I'm not involved with the police or emergency services, just an amazing coincidence when I saw it on TV a few weeks back. I wondered why I hadn't seen his car for a while and assumed it had been sold on due to normal reasons, not this. Fairly tidy example too. Agree with the other poster's comments |

Obviously when it didn't work after the first ban one would think that it simply wasn't as effective as they require so why add another 5 on top
