Was it Renault?
what is the Renault Laguna that hand handbrake problems on early models, it would not always hold on a hill and the car would roll?

I'm sure that you must be thinking of my old box type Viva circa 1979, my first car, that I bought for £60.
It rolled backwards down hills even when I was driving it never mind when parked, Didn't really have much of a floor and lasted about six weeks before having to be scrapped. Whether Renault brought out a similar version I've no idea. |

The mk3 Mondeo had a recall in 2001 as they had a tendency to roll away whist your in the house!

I'm surprised how many of these cars now with electric parking brakes do not automatically apply when you turn the ignition off and leave the car. We used to have a VW Passat at work and someone parked that and must have forgot to apply the brake and it rolled across the car-park. The Renault Laguna we had for a while did apply automatically when leaving the car I think. |

My MOT tester was telling me a lot of cars fail on poor handbrake, a combination of reason but his theory Automatic drivers rarely apply it and a lot of cars have a poor design that barely worked even when new. He was working on a Renault automatic recently and he had to replace almost everything as he reckoned the last time it had been used was for the last MOT and it was marginal then.

Some Vauxhalls have had issues (early 00s Vectra and Signum) plus various French cars.

At least with our cars there is a well documented way of getting our handbrakes fixed cheaply. |
